NEXTSTEPS for downtown™

NEXTSTEPS for downtown™ - a new service from the city planning firm of Birchler Arroyo Associates, Inc. (BA) - offers communities an opportunity to improve and invigorate downtown areas.   NEXTSTEPS for downtown™ is a path to ideas and solutions. 

BA will conduct an intensive assessment that includes a walking tour of downtown and informal conversations with stakeholders.  The results of the NEXTSTEPS process will be a toolkit highlighting 1) downtown strengths and opportunities, 2) action items to enhance downtown (i.e., Next Steps), and 3) best practices - what is working in other successful downtowns.  The toolkit will include an interactive disk and implementation worksheets that will keep the NEXTSTEPS momentum going.

The entire process is designed to take place over a 30-day period from the site visit to delivery of the final report.  NEXTSTEPS is the place to start on a path towards solutions for downtown.

The NEXTSTEPS for Holly Downtown Assessment and Action Strategies Report is now complete.   The final product includes a full color report, best practices guidebook, and interactive CD.

Downtowns sometimes need a shot-in-the-arm; fresh ideas to either jump start a comprehensive planning process or reaffirm and invigorate past planning efforts.   This can be particularly true during a down economic cycle.


NEXTSTEPS provides ideas and solutions within approximately 30 days of the initial site visit by the team of downtown experts.   The toolkit is designed to be used immediately; its place is not on a shelf.  Interactive worksheets permit community leaders to accept, reject or modify ideas and recommendations.   Appropriate strategies can then be ranked and assigned to stakeholders to produce tangible results.
